Welcome
Welcome to Shelf Life.
Shelf Life is an archive of food history and American kitchen culture. Discontinued products, vintage packaging, food mascots, era recipes, appliances, the things that filled grocery store shelves and home kitchens across the decades.
The focus is primarily the 1950s through the 1990s, the American supermarket at its peak, the TV dinner, the Crock-Pot, the cereal aisle that no longer exists. A digest every week or two collecting the most interesting finds, a handful of images with a few sentences of context each, plus occasionally a longer piece when a subject has an interesting deeper story.
